MiniSport, Zero EV and MINI, the BMW-owned modern incarnation of the Mini brand, have confirmed their partnership as part of Recharged Heritage, a brand specialising in the production of electric classic Mini restomods under the MINI Recharged banner.
MiniSport is a leading UK-based Mini specialist, while Zero EV specialises in the production of EV conversion parts. The MINI Recharged project is the result of the two brands working together with MINI to engineer and develop eco-friendly and reversible electric classic Mini conversions.
Recharged Heritage refers to its work as ‘bespoke upcycling’, with electric power taking centre stage. Each of its cars is to be produced with eco-friendliness in mind, with a ‘renovate and reuse’ approach that means no changes to the car’s body structure. The MINI Recharged project also aims to retain the Mini’s famous handling characteristics during the transformation.
Each MINI Recharged can be had in one of three levels of conversion: Pure Mini, Sport Mini and Bespoke Mini. Each is powered by the same 72kW electric powertrain producing 75bhp and 175Nm of torque, enough for 0-60mph in 11.5 seconds and a 90mph top speed in standard trim. An 18kWh battery provides a range of 103 miles, while 6.6kW charging equates to a recharge time of 3 hours on a home wallbox.
Mini Pure cars get the base conversion, which incorporates a new front subframe for the new powertrain, regenerative braking, a protective undertray, a PTC heater system and a motor with one drive mode, plus numerous interior and exterior upgrades and refinements. Mini Sport cars get all of this plus the addition of a Sports Mode, which allows for a 7.8-second 0-60mph sprint, along with upgraded brakes, sports suspension and Yokohama tyres.
Mini Sport models form the basis of the Mini Bespoke service, where customers can fully customise their cars to create one-off commissions. Two such cars have already been created: the Lakwena x MINI Recharged in collaboration with London-based artist Lakwena Maciver, along with the Paul Smith x MINI Recharged (pictured), a car expected to make an appearance at this weekend’s Goodwood Revival.
Pre-orders are open now, with prices starting from £42,500 for the conversion of an existing car, or £60,000 for car procurement plus conversion. Bespoke commissions are offered on a POA basis. For more information, visit the Heritage Recharged website.
