Wiesmann returns! New model and Salon Privé display announced
Sports car maker is back with the announcement of a new model and a V8 heritage display set for prestigious concours

Wiesmann is back! Once offering retro, quirky and outrageously fast sports cars as a direct challenger to TVRs and the Porsche 911, the automotive specialist folded in May 2014 due to complications with American imports.

Now under new ownership, and with plans for a re-engineered model to be built in the Dulmen factory in Germany, Wiesmann is marking its return with a special V8 heritage showcase at Salon Privé featuring a GTMF5 Coupé and an MF4 Roadster. Churning out 547bhp, the GTMF5 can crack 193mph and hit 0-60mph in 3.9 seconds. As were all Wiesmann models, it's based on BMW running gear.

Founded in 1988, Wiesmann started out as a manufacturer of low-volume sports cars. Each one was hand built, finished to a high standard and boasted some of the best German precision engineering.

Although evocative of Jaguar's sports car offerings from the 1940s, the Wiesmann shape was unique and unmistakably aggressive. Following the classic configuration of a long, swooping bonnet and short rear end, the products were crafted for those who appreciated luxury and performance without a mass-produced feel.

Over the course of 30 years, Wiesmann sold state-of-the-art cars throughout Europe, Asia and the Middle East, yet it failed to conquer the American market. Despite the setback of liquidation, a new owner has stepped in and returned the production headquarters to their former glory with a manufacturing programme that will see the unveiling of a new model next year.

'Wiesmann is the last thoroughbred European sports car, built in Germany, and I'm very happy to play a part in creating its exciting future,' said Roheen Berry, managing director of Wiesmann Sports Cars.

'This is a very exciting time for Wiesmann, and we are thrilled to play a part in the relaunch of this iconic sports cars brand,' added David Bagley, co-founder and sales director of Salon Privé.

'Having known the brand for a number of years, what it offers is exceptional – a true purists' driving experience courtesy of the latest BMW M-Power units matched with unmistakeable attention to detail in the build quality and a finish that epitomises bespoke build at its absolute best.'
