Pavilion Gardens | Buxton, Derbyshire Viewing: Tues 13th October from 12pm Auction 14th October, 2026 12:00 Location: Pavilion Gardens St John's Rd, Buxton SK17 6BE Registration No: BLY 296Y Chassis No: WF0CXXGAECCR97493 MOT: Exempt Entered from the collection of the late owner of Cosworth specialists, Top Boss Performance Owned since 2016, with just five previous owners Fitted with a 2. 9-litre V6 Granada Cosworth engine with Twin-Turbos Significant mechanical upgrades throughout Ford’s Capri was launched at the 1969 Brussels Motor Show. The fastback Coupe was intended to do for Europe what the Mustang had done for the USA – i. e. it was our ‘pony’ car, and would have been called Colt had Mitsubishi not claimed the moniker first. The monocoque body featured independent front suspension by MacPherson strut and a live axle with leaf springs at the rear. Worthwhile improvements came with the MkII models of 1974 and the quadruple headlamp MkIII cars introduced in 1978. Then in 1981, the venerable 3-litre Essex-engined variant was dropped in favour of the 2. 8 Injection model – a single-car range powered by the lusty fuel-injected 2. 8-litre Cologne V6. Power rose to 160bhp and, soon after launch, the old four-speed gearbox was replaced with a more contemporary five-speed one. Ford now had a stylish four-seat Coupe with performance capable of shaming rivals costing four times the money – it could hit 60mph in 7. 8 seconds and top 130mph flat out. Capris have become hot property and many enthusiasts regard the 2. 8-litre injection cars as the best of the bunch. Specialists in Cosworth engined Fords, the Top Boss Performance owner was well used to ****** and Sierra builds, but in 2016 had not yet ventured far into the world of uprating Capris. ‘BLY 296Y’ was supplied new by Godfrey Davis of London to an insurance firm, and finished in two-tone colour scheme of Graphite Grey with Strato Silver, and Shark Grey cloth upholstery. Acquired by the (sadly now late) owner of Top Boss in 2016 as a nicely presented, albeit standard, example of the Capri 2. 8, he embarked upon the modification programme to build ‘The Grey Prince’ that we see here today. Fitted with a twin-turbo charged 2. 9-litre V6 Granada Cosworth engine built by Top Boss, the engine also features an engine management system, twin intercoolers, an uprated radiator with twin electric fans, performance air filters, a custom plenum chamber, and a full custom exhaust system. The upgrades did not stop there with a six-link rear axle, an uprated big brake kit with rear disc conversion, adjustable suspension front and rear, uprated suspension bushing all round, front anti-dive kit, and front upper strut brace. Cosemtics were not overlooked either, with Motorsport front splitter and rear spoiler, 15-inch alloy wheels, RS steering wheel, Ford Capri 280 Brooklands interior, and new gear knob all provided, as well as a full stereo system fitted too. A very well-known car in Ford circles, the Capri was a regular at Ford and classic car shows once the build was completed, with the engine bay always attracting attention as a real work of art! Last in regular use in c. 2022, the Capri was then taken off the road for a bottom-half repaint. The strip-down and some metalwork started, but was sadly never completed due to ill health. Once finished and recommissioned, this Capri will no doubt go as well as it looks, with a Dyno sheet showing some 456hp! Supplied with a history file including previous invoices, MOT certificates dating back to the 1990s, rolling road print out, original stamped service book, and current V5C document. A rare opportunity to acquire such a well-built car, ‘The Grey Prince’ will no doubt be the talk of any car event, Ford show, or even at places such as Santa Pod! ** Bidding will take place live at the venue, online via our H&H website, by telephone and commission - T&Cs apply** Entry by catalogue and can be purchased for £20 (admits 2...
