1968' Mercedes-Benz 600 Grand Grosser

Introduced in 1963, The Mercedes-Benz 600 series was the pinnacle of luxury motoring offering a fully custom bespoke range like no other current manufacturer could offer leaving no room for a base or stock model. This in turn made these vehicle extremely popular with presidents, dictators and other heads of state around the world. The 600 range featured a unique hydraulic system for powering everything from the suspension to the seats, doors, boot and windows. This enabled everything to be power operated even when the car was turned off and was seen as supremely technologically advanced for its day. This left the car weighing a staggering 2.5 tonnes so an all-new 6.3L V8 producing 300bhp was created and fitted to the 600 range. However, due to the extensive hydraulic system, only 250bhp would be utilised to propel the car with the remaining 50bhp used to power the amenities. Only 2,677 Mercedes-Benz 600s were produces from 1963-1981. This vehicle was first sold new in Australia in 1968. The vehicle enjoyed regular use during the 1960s-70s until moving to the York Motor Museum in Western Australia where it spent most of its life on display. Today it presents in true time warp, completely original condition with the original engine, paint and interior trim. The Grosser comes with all of its original delivery documents including owner’s manual, service/log book, extensive history file and tools. As an option extra of the time, it also comes with its original miniature portable TV and portable phone. The Mercedes-Benz 600 series was unlike any other production car and remarkably ahead of its time.
