The Morris Eight offered sturdy family transport in the 1930s and boasted such refinements as hydraulic brakes, which was an obvious advantage against the competition at the time. Two and four door examples were available, usually in two tone paintwork and powered by a robust 885cc side valved engine.

DNO 853 is one of the two door saloons, with optional sunshine roof. To describe it as ‘original’ seems inadequate. We have seldom seen a more original motor car. We know it spent 1965 to 2005 in the Sharpe Museum in Essex and the vast Collection was sold on July 1st 2005 by Christies Auctioneers. The Vendor acquired it in 2012 and has kept it in a dry store ever since, resisting the temptation to do anything at all to lose this wonderful sense that it is just as it left the factory. Even the roller blind over the rear window is there, complete with cord to pull it up.

Forward then all lovers of ’Oily rag’ motors. The Vendor tells us that the Morris drove into its current resting place some five years ago and, with the loan of an appropriate 6 volt battery from your scribe, is confident that he can motor it out ready for onward transportation to D.V.C.A. Prospective purchasers are advised to check on the outcome of this boast, but everything appears to be in place, so maybe his confidence will prove well founded.

A V5C registration certificate accompanies the vehicle, together with a RF60 registration book and some MOT test certificates, one of which is dated 23rd September 1964.
