To modernise the Triumph TR5 that had evolved from the Michelotti designed TR4, Triumph looked to produce a new modern body. They commissioned Karmann of Germany but the task was difficult as Karmann had to produce a new body style whilst retaining much of the original structure. The re-style included a new nose, wings and a new tail. The result was the 'Kamm' tailed TR6 and produced between 1969 and 1976. The home market TR6 initially produced 150bhp but was later detuned to 125bhp. Due to their greater power output, the early models are more sought after amongst the Triumph enthusiasts.

This particular example is a far cry from the standard model! It is a race prepared car which is a twice class winner in the TR National Register Sprint and Hillclimb Championships. It has been campaigned over the last ten years on the circuits in the CSCC and the HSCC competitions respectively. Its chassis was stripped and fully reinforced by CTM Engineering, the engine is a late block with rib, steel crank and forged pistons. The car has a lightened and balanced flywheel and clutch,  together with a fully ported head. There is a six branch manifold, triple 45 DCOE Webers, full race cam purporting to push out a mighty 225bhp. There is also a roll cage, six point fixing to the chassis and the brakes are four pot vented AP calipers to name a few of the mechanical attributes which make this a very exciting sports car. This really is a superb entry to club motorsport and represents great value for money considering the cost of buying a standard road car and transforming it into the car presented here.
