Commentaires du vendeur sur 1948' Allard M Type

A most impressive example, this car was the subject of a total 'last nut and bolt' body-off restoration in the USA some nine years ago that cost the equivalent of almost £100,000. Purportedly, it was a Pebble Beach concours winner in 2003/2004 and undoubtedly would be a strong contender for top concours honours now. Equipped with triple carburettors, the engine has been totally rebuilt to run on Super Unleaded fuel and incorporates tuning parts made by the legendary Offenhauser company in the form of the latter's aluminium cylinder heads. Fewer than 1,000 miles have been covered since the car's total rebuild circa 2000/2001 and we are able to report that it sounds wonderful and is said to drive superbly. The chassis is as clean underneath as the body is on top. It should be noted that after a further 500 miles the cylinder head bolts will need to be re-tightened to the correct torque setting (recommended figures enclosed with accompanying paperwork).

Chassis number '705' is finished in Flame Red with beige mohair hood, while the re-trimmed interior features beige leather upholstery, contrasting biscuit carpets bound in beige leather, and striking walnut woodwork. Chromed wire wheels have been fitted in preference to the standard steel disc wheels.

Completely reworked by Sam Thomas Racing they have removed the engine from the car, fully disassembled it and removed all pistons, conrods, crankshaft, had the white metalling reground, overhauled and replaced the bearing which engages the clutch, remove all carburettors, replace seals from carb to manifold, machine butterflies so the seal properly and close the throttle as it would idle high, once engine block stitched, repaint in correct yellow as before, lap in valves and re assemble heads, purchase new head gaskets and reassembled heads, reassemble crank and new bearings, torque up and crank over for oil pressure before reinstalling, install engine back into the engine bay, replace the rare water pumps as they weren’t functioning very well with missing blades on the propellers, (we have original water pumps still) inspect and test dynamo, rebuild and replace the brushes as they weren’t contacting properly and returning insufficient charge back to the motor & car, run through brakes which have been completely rebuilt, the shoe material has been replaced and seated correctly, wheel cylinders now completely function as per original, the gear linkage was completely removed, the eye points have been measured and bespoke pins made for each point to ensure gear selection is correct and not overly loose, purchase new old stock radiator, paint it and install into the car, replace fan and water pump belts, electronics have been safety checked.

The trim has been completely retrimmed prior to us having the car, also the paintwork is extremely good and in great condition, the car runs and drives great, MOT not required as the car is 1948 Allard M Type chassis 705 is ready for the new year.

Before this work was undertaken we organised Darrell Allard to visit to see the car, he visited in his M coupe and also looked over our ex Le Mans J2X streamline car, whilst visiting he commented on the development of the car and the stories his uncle used to tell the family.

This is a truely beautiful car which is appreciating in status and value, ready for 2018.
