Commentaires du vendeur sur 1934' Bentley Derby

1934 Bentley Derby, very rare 2 door saloon by Thrupp & Maberly AND period Monte Carlo and RAC rally history.
Due to a change of circumstances it is with great sadness this stunning car is for sale.
The car is one of five two door saloons to be built by Thrupp and Maberly and believed to be the only one in remaining. The only comparable car that has sold in recent years is one of the five 2 door coupe that went for £175,000 and it wasn’t even concourse!
This car also has exciting sporting history, the first owner G.E.Stott campaigned the car in the Monte Carlo rally in 1935 and the RAC rallies of 1935, 1936 and 1937. I have pictures of the car competing in each of these and various historical records. This gives the car rights to compete in many exciting worldwide historic vintage rallies.
I bought the car to drive, enjoy and slowly refurbish to the next level. The white coachwork is in good order and is complimented by the huge black sweeping wings and massive doors. It's quite a statement and causes great excitement wherever it goes. It is not however perfect as with any 80+ year old car, the odd paint imperfection can be seen. Chrome work is in great order, all rechromed in the not so distant past.
In the last few months new blockey tyres have benn fitted, a new carb, custom heat shield made and custom full stainless exhaust with a big fish tail end discreetly mounted at the rear of the car. Replacement wiper motor fitted.
Good condition cream leather and blue interior that is nicely worn in to ensure you are housed in suitable luxury.
The car lived in the US for a number of years and was repatriated in the early 90s. During this time a 4.1 L (non Bentley) straight 6 was fitted, mounted to than autobox. The gearbox selector is rigged up to the bentley gear lever so visually no different and makes vintage motoring a much simpler experience. An original period engine and box can easily be refitted, no modifications made to chassis etc. I can pass on contacts made to source.
There are a few areas of further fettling required to make everything right, all personal preference mind, small things like making all the dial work etc.
The car is wonderfully reliable with recent trips to the New Forest, Devon and Spa (Belgium) - she was as good as gold not skipping a beat.
An exciting opportunity to get your hands on a post vintage bentley with incredibly exciting history. A very hard one to let go.
