1960 Jaguar Mark 2 3.8 Saloon

We are firmly of the opinion that Jaguar’s Mark 2 saloon is one of the most practical and elegant choices for the classic motoring enthusiast. Representing what was one of the first true sporting saloon cars, with a huge competition heritage and benefitting from a punchy straight six engine, taught handling and modern disc brakes all round, it is easy to see why these cars are so at home on modern roads, providing a great driving experience to this day, particular in this, the crown jewels 3.8 litre version of the car.

200535DN is a very early example of these fantastic Jaguar saloons. Manufactured February 1960, only a few months after the start of production, the car was originally sold by Henlys of London to a Mr P Murrell.
Later in the 1960’s, London Weekend Television featured the car in a series called the Gold Robbers staring Peter Vaughan. The series is still available on DVD!
Moving on to the early 1990’s, the car was purchased by a West Sussex resident who began the cars restoration which was completed by the cars next owners at an eye watering for the time cost of £60,000.

After winning may concours competitions the car was dry stored between 1997 and 2006 and subsequently purchased by its current owner.
Around 2011, 200535 arrived with us here at CMC for some significant upgrading and remedial work. The engine was overhauled and converted to a modern lip seal rear crank oil seal arrangement and a new clutch installed. The front and rear suspension, brakes and various other associated systems were overhauled and the car was treated to heated, electrically adjustable seats, power steering, upgraded audio system, ventilated front disc with 4 piston callipers, competition laced wheels, central locking and a host of other improvements and upgrades as well as significant cosmetic and paint work including Coombs rear arches. In total some £30,000 was spent to bring the car back to life after is significant period of storage and make her a truly usable, enjoyable and practical super-classic saloon.

Now, back with us this time to find its next owner, 200535 has been fully prepared including a major service and will be sold with 12 months MOT and a 3 month/3000 mile warranty.
All of this work and the huge back history of the car, is carefully documented in car’s superb provenance record making this car one of the best prepared, documented and most usable Mark 2’s out there.
