Commentaires du vendeur sur 1955' Jaguar Xk140 Fhc

This stunning Jaguar XK140 FHC is a genuine matching numbers California car, distributed new out of Hornburg, Los Angeles. The XK spent its entire post UK life in the warm CA climate, but the later forty years of California life was spent in the garage and not on the road. The XK spent from 1955 to 1969 in regular use on dry state roads and in 1970 was taken off the road for what resulted in a very long term restoration project. The long term owner of the XK over in the US did not manage to finish the rebuild, and in 2011 it was offered for sale due to bereavement. The XK body was removed from the chassis and the engine stripped down. The chassis had been beautifully restored and painted, the body was equally impressive with stunning paintwork and clearly had benefited from being a CA car. All parts were with the car, carefully wrapped and labelled along with many original Jaguar factory spares to include lovely chrome work and a part exhaust system. In part restored condition the XK was sold to a Los Angeles restorer who in 2012 sold the XK to a friend of his in the UK, it's one recorded UK owner.

The Jaguar arrived into Felixtowe in 2012 and was transported to its new owners garage in Devon. In order to be shipped from California the body was partially reassembled with the gearbox and engine fitted. Several boxes of parts accompanied the car and every item was checked and found to have no rust or major deterioration. At this point the completion of the rebuild process began with the engine, gearbox and Salisbury rear axle and Thornton LSD diff being removed once again. All brake and suspension components that has been refitted were also removed from the car. The original Moss gearbox was stripped and checked, it was found to require new forks and specialist Guy Broad recommended his five speed gearbox conversion which was purchased without hesitation. The original Moss gearbox is available with the car. The engine with its highly desirable C Type wide angle head was checked over and then sent to Andrew Chesham Motorsport for a full rebuild, all detailed on an invoice for over £5,000 for parts and machining/engineering. The SU carburettors were sent to a specialist for rebuild and then the engine and five speed gearbox were refitted to the car.

By this point the body was properly secured and shimmed to the chassis, a long process in order to ensure doors, bonnet and boot would fit perfectly back on the car. The front suspension was re-fitted back to the car, a new fuel tank fitted and the rear suspension offered back up to the car and secured. The XK was treated to a complete standard differential from AJS of Southend and a new stainless steel exhaust system was fitted to the car but the manifolds left original rather than treated to a new ceramic finish as when heated up again, the finish quickly deteriorates. A new wiring loom was fitted, all gauges sent away for refurbishment and chrome work all re fitted to the car. All door window chromed are the originals, as are most of the door and window fittings. The hubs were shot blasted and stove enables and the wire wheels painted, new tyres were fitted and the ex Browns Lanes staff at Suffolk and Turley re-trimmed the upholstery. At this point the car was ready, and driven 180 miles back south to Devon. Since then a further 100 miles have been covered in the car.

The Jaguar has arrived with us in exceptional order and offers an excellent opportunity having only covered several hundred miles since a long term nut and bolt rebuild. 462 UYM presents superbly with an excellent straight bodyshell and chassis, lovely sharp paintwork and chrome, and the interior is truly outstanding. The XK140 drives beautifully with its impressive rebuilt engine holding excellent oil pressure, the five speed gearbox is effortless to use and handling and braking are sharp, steering direct with a wonderful tight feel on the road. Being so fresh from rebuild, the XK is now going through our workshops for some final touches of detail and enquiries are welcomed. This is a special car, it has provenance, quality, and is a true matching numbers California car that has all the rewards of being in a dry state car most of its life.
