Introduced in November 1951, the Mercedes 300 had the constructive features of the type W 159, which did not get beyond the prototype stage before World War II. The oval tube frame used in the Mercedes 230 in X-shape was also used here. The body fitted to the chassis with a wheelbase of 3050 mm took up the design elements of the W 159 in a modernized form. With a larger rear window and larger tires, the type 300 C was presented at the IAA in 1955. A single-joint pendulum axle ensured better drivability and the drivetrain included the standard installation of the automatic three-speed Borg-Warner DG 150 M transmission, which created the first Mercedes-Benz automatic car. A total of approximately 1400 exemplars of the Mercedes-Benz 300 c were built.
The vehicle offered here is in outstanding original and well preserved condition – a real “time warp”! The first original velours interior is not far from new after many decades. This late version of an Adenauer is equipped with an automatic gearbox and a super rare works folding sunroof.
