Only 2,000 units were produced, all fitted with the 301 Turbo engine and an automatic transmission.
The Black SE continued to be available for one more year, but most cars rolled off the assembly lines with a T-top. Only approximately 100 to 120 (the actual number is unknown) coupes were produced, most with the same 301 Turbo.
One of these Trans Ams landed on eBay thanks to Druk Auto Sales.
The car looks great, and I feel that it'd be a waste of time to discuss its condition. It's unclear if this is the result of a previous restoration, but contact the dealer and discuss all the details, especially if you're specifically interested in an unrestored specimen. The interior is amazing, and as the dealer says, it looks to be in showroom condition.
Everything inside this Trans Am works, including the wipers and the power windows. There's nothing to complain about this car, and I doubt it'll remain on the market for too long, especially if priced correctly.
The engine under the hood is the LG4 305. This was the rarest choice on nearly every Trans Am version released this year, and after checking out multiple sources online, I estimate that only about 15 buyers ordered this engine on a Trans Am Black Edition SE coupe. The same engine made its way to over 900 T-tops, so the body style makes a huge difference in this case.
The LG4 was a Chevrolet-built engine and was optional on the Trans Am, so some buyers decided to stick with the W72 to avoid the extra costs.
The good news is that this engine is still in good shape on this Trans Am, and it doesn't need anything. You should be able to take the car out for a spin, though I doubt this Trans Am will spend much time on the road, considering its shape.
The selling price is the biggest roadblock in its attempt to find a new home as part of this online auction. The dealer posted the car on eBay for auction, but it also enabled a reserve. Someone has already submitted a $33,700 bid, but the reserve is still in place, and I doubt it'll be triggered soon. I believe the reserve is somewhere close to $40,000 to $45,000, so fingers crossed that the interest in this Trans Am grows, and someone decides to send higher bids to buy the car.
Until this happens, the vehicle remains in Anoka, Minnesota, where it's currently parked.
