BMW has produced several ultimate driving machines none are arguably more iconic than the M1. Built from 1978 to 1981, the M1 was a mid-engine sports car developed in collaboration with Lamborghini. It's one of only two mid-engine cars BMW has ever built.

It was the first BMW production vehicle to get the M badge. And it was the only M Division-exclusive vehicle in the company's history until the XM crossover showed up.

M1s are super-rare. BMW only built 399 road-going versions of the car as a homologation special to qualify it for endurance racing. Whenever they come up for sale, they are incredibly expensive. So imagine our surprise when one shows up for sale on ... wait for it ... Facebook Marketplace. Yeah, really.

The BMW M1 listing comes from a company called Animoya Garage, based in Pontiac, Michigan. This M1 is one of 59 examples produced with blue paint and a black leather interior. Imported from the UK, the M1 is showing 15,560 kilometers, which equals 9,668 miles. The original owner kept the M1 for 42 years before selling it to the second owner in a private sale. That owner completed $34,000 worth of restoration work. We suspect the seller is not interested in trading for your boat or PlayStation, as the vehicle is listed for $785,000.

Per Animoya Garage's description, this is the M1 that took home the 50th Anniversary of the BMW M Division award at The Quail during Monterey Car Week in 2022. This is also reportedly a celebrity-owned BMW M1. According to Animoya Garage, the original owner who kept the car for 42 years was a founding member of Pink Floyd. It was purchased during the brand's famous "The Wall" tour in the early 1980s. In addition to the decades of meticulous service documentation, the vehicle also comes with a backstage pass from a February 1980 Pink Floyd show, if you're into that sort of thing.

The Frankenstein BMW That Turned Out To Be An Epic Investment
The BMW 1M coupe was a parts-bin special that took many of its parts from the BMW E92 M3 and is one of the best cars BMW has ever created.

The description does not specify which founding member of Pink Floyd owned the M1. Drummer Nick Mason is a renowned car collector and motorsport enthusiast who raced a BMW M1 at the 24 Hours of Le Mans in 1982. Bassist Roger Waters has also owned some notable vehicles. It would have to be one of these two, as the other founding members – Syd Barrett and Richard Wright – passed away before the M1 was sold to its current owner.
