The third-generation NC Mazda Miata isn’t as beloved as other MX-5 generations. It is bigger and heavier than its predecessors, and the styling is a bit too joyful, but now you can experience the car’s greatness without feeling embarrassed about being seen in an NC.
Bring a Trailer is auctioning a 2007 MX-5 Miata Sport with an Aston Martin-style body that looks like something designed in collaboration with Zagato. The Mazda has an all-new front end, including the grille and headlights (the fog lights aren’t connected), a restyled rear, and 16-inch knock-off wheels.
While the door skins are unchanged, the car has handles sourced from a Lancia Flavia. Other Aston touches include the front fender vents, hood scoop, and badge.
Inside, the Miata, modified by Simpson Design of Clinton, Washington, features a wood-rimmed Nardi steering wheel with the Aston logo, wood trim on the dashboard and center console, and fixed-back vinyl bucket seats.
Under the hood is Mazda’s 2.0-liter MZR inline-four engine, with the Mazda logo on top, producing 166 horsepower and 140 pound-feet of torque. It pairs with the car's six-speed automatic transmission. The odometer lists 26,000 miles.
The current bid is $20,500, with five days left in the auction.
