The classic Mustang has been in the spotlight lately after the original 1968 Ford Mustang that starred in the famous 'Bullitt' car chase became the most expensive Mustang ever, selling for a staggering $3.74 million. A very rare Ford Mustang Shelby GT350R prototype driven by Ken Miles could even beat that record when it goes up for auction next month. But now it's time for another iconic American muscle car to get some love.
UK-based restoration company Classic Investments has painstakingly restored an iconic 1969 Dodge Charger, which was made famous by its role in the 1970s TV series 'The Dukes of Hazzard,' to modern standards. This original 1969 Charger R/T car was fully stripped and all rust was removed, before being rebuilt to "better than new condition".
Classic Investments has improved the original suspension by adding adjustable Koni dampers, while polyurethane bushes sharpen the steering. The brakes have also been upgraded with 11-inch discs and rotors at the front and 11-inch uprated drums at the rear and the muscle car's 440ci Magnum V8 engine is now-fully balanced and fitted with a performance camshaft, a Holley 770 Street Avenger series 4 barrel carburetor, and a stainless-steel exhaust. The engine has already been run in ready for its new owner to enjoy.
Inside, the interior has been comprehensively retrimmed and soundproofed to improve comfort during long journeys. All original components were also rebuilt including the radio, gauges, speedometer, switches and center console. A custom wood grain steering wheel with and leather seats complete the restoration. In total, this painstaking restoration took over 3,000 hours
"The Charger looks really good, exactly the right spec (engine, seats etc) and right color for the car. Matching numbers is a big deal in the muscle car world, as it is with Porsches. It's obviously up with the Mustang as the most iconic muscle car out there," said David Lillywhite, Editor in Chief at Magneto magazine.
Agris Alksnis, founder of Classic Investments, added: "More than 3000 hours have been put into making this the ultimate Dodge Charger R/T. For anyone who wants a classic muscle car, but without the fear of unreliability, this is the car for an enthusiast who cannot get enough of iconic cars such as this."
Classic Investments hasn't announced any pricing details, but this beautifully restored Charger will no doubt be considerably more expensive than a brand new 2020 Dodge Charger R/T, which starts at $36,495.
