Vehicle history:
With this car Ettore Bugatti first introduced four valve technology to a serial engine. To prove his innovative idea, he entered four of these models in a Brescia motor race. They took the first four prizes and thereafter all 16 valve Bugattis were named “Brescia”.
This Bugatti Type 23 was originally supplied via the Paris dealer “Magasin”. Later, after the war, it was registered under the ownership of a Belgian, Mr. Delplancke, who resided in Angers, France. He later took the car back to Belgium and registered it there. After that we find the car under the ownership of a Garage Waltema (a DKW-auto union dealer) in Mariakerke near Ghent. Then a gentleman named Wolf de Ridder purchased the car in 1966 – he was an ardent Bugatti collector and a Jaguar dealer. Years passed and the Type 23 was inherited by his son Hugo. We discovered that the cars body at this time no longer bore the original shape. However, 10 years ago, the vehicle’s present owner decided to rebody the car. And with a help of Bugattis’ “Mobile Tradition” and basing it on the outstandingly beautiful “Louis Chiron Roadster” he built what you see today. It certainly underlines the unequaled exclusivity of this marque today.
