1965 Ford Mustang V8 Fastback 289cui / California Car “white & black”Most likely, the creators of the Ford Mustang could not have imagined in their wildest dreams the incredible attraction this sports coupé, introduced in 1964, would have on customers – and the curious side effects this would bring about:A report from 1965 states that a local Ford dealer had to cordon off his showroom to protect his last available Ford Mustang from the onslaught of eager buyers. Another Ford dealer experienced a similar situation – a Ford Mustang on a lift was practically besieged by customers. In 1965, the Ford Motor Company aimed high with the Ford Mustang and, as a marketing stunt, positioned a convertible on the observation deck of the Empire State Building in New York. Undeterred by the fact that the Ford Mustang wouldn't fit in the elevator whole, they simply cut the convertible into four parts, transported it piece by piece to the top, and then reassembled it there.More than 418, 000 Mustangs were sold in a short time – far more than there were production slots available. In that sense, Ray and Margarete Robinson from Santa Cruz, California, could consider themselves lucky to finally take delivery of their Mustang in late summer 1965: a beautiful white Ford Mustang Fastback, which we are now offering here on behalf of the owner.According to the still existing “New Ford Ownercard” and the “data plate”, this Ford Mustang Fastback was produced from July 21, 1965, equipped with the optional 289cui V8 engine in combination with a 3-speed automatic transmission and finished in the exterior color “Wimbledon White” (paint code “M”) and with a black interior (interior code “26”).The overall condition of this Ford Mustang Fastback can be described as very good: The body has been partially repainted in its original color and shows only minor patina in places.
