We have had this car since 1999, firstly as my wife's everyday car, then when our children made this impractical it's been my car for everything from several trips to Le Mans, to track days, to family outings. The car has been on the road throughout, although it's recent mileage has dropped from thousands to hundreds of miles a year.
Mechanically the car has always been reliable with a strong twincam, rebuilt by me probably 10 years ago and still very strong. The head was modified prior to my ownership and has bigger valves (bigger than the big valve head) with both the exhaust and inlet valves being bigger. I don't have details of the mods, but it's always worked well.. The car runs on Webers.
The gearbox was also rebuilt at some stage in our ownership, and the car has a competition clutch (which is quite heavy, but works well). About 10 years ago I decided to use the car for track days and fitted TTR rear driveshafts and adjustable springs/shocks. The car handles beautifully whilst still retaining the compliance that these old lotuses have for excellent road manners. It's also got a Galvanised chassis.
So overall it's a great car which has been in continuous reliable use throughout it's life.
