1937 Packard 120 C Business Coupe
The first generation Packard One-Twenty was produced by the Packard Motor Company in Detroit Michigan from 1935 through 1937. The One-Twenty was a mid-priced eight cylinder car designed to compete with the other mid-priced marquees of the day. The One-Twenty was available in numerous body styles including coupes, convertibles, and two and four-door sedans. The 1937 Packard 120C Coupe sold for $990 and featured as standard equipment a three-speed manual transmission.
The body tag notes that the car was delivered by McKenzie Motor Company in Bellingham Washington on 3/3/1937.
• VIN# 1098-2307
• Mileage Shown: 99586
• Engine: 282 Cu. In. Straight Eight (The engine has been changed; it currently is powered by an engine from a 1940 Packard)
• Transmission : 3 Speed Manual Floor Shift
• Color: Metallic Blue
This is a very nice looking Packard – the body on this car is solid and straight with a little rust found underneath at the outer edge where the running boards attach. The paint shines and is presentable good with only minor chips. The exterior trim looks very good as do the bumpers and hubcaps. The car is adorned with the beautiful Goddess of Speed hood/radiator ornament.
The windows operate correctly and all glass is in good condition. The seats, carpet, door panels and headliner, while not the period-correct material, are correct style and are in very nice condition. The window trim, dash, steering wheel, instruments including the in-dash factory clock are present and are all in good shape. The passenger compartment also has its “Packard” under-dash heater.
The engine is a replacement from a 1940 Packard. It starts and runs well. There are no known issues with the engine or transmission which shifts smoothly.
The brakes operate and stop the vehicle but there are signs of leaking at the master cylinder. It is recommended that the brakes and master cylinder, wheel cylinders, rubber hoses, and shoes be redone before driving.
The tires have excellent tread and are the correct look and size so they would display well but they are pre- 2000 so they would need to be replaced for driving.
The car has a clear title and is not currently licensed for driving.
The Packard One Twenty is impressive and true classic styling; the car looks great and runs nicely. With some mechanical refresh and tires, it would be great as a driver to enjoy. The car being a Business Coupe makes it stand out from the crowd.
