Chassis No. 26PE was ordered by Major Edward Fitzgerald of Green Street, Mayfair, London, on 15th December 1918 straight after World War I at a cost of £1,850. Due to a waiting list after the war the body was not ready until 1920. Originally specified as a “high speed, Alpine Eagle” having D rake steering, nickel fittings, short levers “set in” and a 20 gallon fuel tank. The Major employed Henri Labourdette of Paris as his coach builder to produce Salamanca Cabriolet coachwork. In 1924 the Major sent the car to Park Ward and had a very early Park Ward touring body fitted.

Following the Major’s death in 1931 the car was purchased by a dealer and sent to Australia passing through approximately 12 owners before its return to the UK in 1982, unfortunately without its body and in need of restoration as it had not been used since the early 1940s.

26PE was purchased by a wealthy Arab at an auction in 1982 who had the current sporting and attractive sports touring body made by Robinson of Gerrards Cross. However, the car remained unrestored until purchased by the current owner in 2004. 26PE was then shipped to South Africa, where the present owner was living at the time, and totally rebuilt. The owner now resides in the UK so the car continued its many travels and returned to its roots. It has toured many thousands of miles in Africa and Europe and is a splendid touring car. 26PE is affectionately known as ‘Lady Moonpenny’ as she shines like the moon and cost a pretty penny!
