Spitfire Mk3 – Four Year Restoration/Prize Winner

The Triumph Spitfire was introduced at the London Motor Show of 1962. The stylish body was designed by Giovanni Michelotti and the running gear was based on the Herald. Although more expensive than the Midget/Sprite the design, linked to good performance, proved extraordinarily successful. The Mk III introduced in March 1967 was the first major facelift. The car retained the flowing lines of the preceding models with a larger engine, improved performance and fully folding hood that was much easier to use.

Milestone Classics are delighted to offer arguably the nicest Triumph Spitfire on the market today. Purchased in 1998 by a time served engineer the owner initiated a four-year restoration that saw the body removed from the chassis, all corrosion removed/new panels fitted, and a professional respray in the original colour. The interior was also retrimmed with seats covers/door cards from the TSSC club and a replacement carpet set.

Mechanically work included:

·  Rebuilt engine including high-lift cam, lightened flywheel & four branch exhaust manifold with stainless twin exhausts.

·  Rebuilt twin SU carburettors.

·  Rebuilt suspension including new bushes, shocks, springs & thicker (Herald) rollbar.

·  Brakes overhaul - master cylinder/wheel cylinders/brake shoes.

·  Wire wheel upgrade

The standard of work is a real testament to the skill, knowledge & commitment of the owner. Used regularly the car was also entered in a number of competitions winning prizes at concours level (cups come with car) and featured in Triumph World Magazine.

The Spitfire was sold in 2009 and has always been pampered covering under 600 miles since in the last twelve years.

Cars of this quality rarely come to market and this delightful Spitfire is ready to be used and enjoyed by a lucky new keeper.
