First released in 1955, the Volkswagen Karmann Ghia was the first model ever produced by VW and was marketed as a top of the range stylish grand tourer with a 2+2 floorplan. The vehicle was born through the marriage of elegant Italian styling by design house Ghia and precision German engineering and manufacturing through body builder Karmann. The model quickly became the marques halo car with more than 12,000 sold in its first year of production. The Karmann Ghia retained the same engine and drivetrain as the VW Beetle and was upgraded accordingly throughout its model progression. The Type 14 were equipped standard with a 1200cc 4 cylinder engine which produced 34bhp and a top speed of 120km/h. This Karmann Ghia was originally sold new in Melbourne, Australia. It changed owners several times until it was purchased by the previous owner, a car collector from Phillip Island. During his ownership, the car received a full ground up “nut and bolt” restoration. This included a complete engine out rebuild, bare metal respray in its original cream, and all new period correct interior trim. It comes with a history file detailing works completed. Today it presents in overall excellent to near new condition. *Test Drive and Viewing by Appointment Only
