GDP 137 is one of only 30 or so Atlantics on Britain’s roads today and one of only 100 or so worldwide.
Originally supplied by Vincents of Reading, GDP was owned for many years by a keen and well-known Atlantic enthusiast who took the vehicle to countries all over Europe. Since I acquired the car in 2013 I have taken her on numerous rallies and she always always attracts attention at the car shows.
GDP sports a red leather interior and cream dash. As a later 1952 model, GDP also benefits from a rear window winder located between the sun visors, which is in excellent working order.
Although complete, the interior of the car would also benefit from some TLC, including new carpets and leather trim around the rear window. The exterior would also benefit from cosmetic work.
Recent work undertaken includes new brakes, some body work repairs & repainting, re-chromed front and back bumpers, refurbished wheel hubs and the engine has recently undergone a complete and professional rebuild / refurbishment less than 250 miles ago. She starts on the button every time, runs quietly and sweetly and really is a car you can hop in and drive away in.
Being a 1952 vehicle, GDP is both MOT & Tax Exempt and Classic Car Insurance makes her a very affordable classic to run and maintain.
Atlantics are now in high demand due to their rarity and prices have increased substantially over the last few years, with restored saloons selling for over £40k at auction.
GDP is not a show-winning car – she is an unrestored car to drive and enjoy, however if time and money were to be spent on a re-spray, new roof covering, re-chroming and new carpets her value would increase considerably. There has been a recent increase in popularity for ‘Oily Rag’ cars such as this, as they have so much more character than restored examples. I would personally leave her as original as possible and only do the work that was required but this is a decision for the new owner.
GDP is well known to the Austin Counties Car Club (ACCC) and has featured within the club magazine, both recently and historically with her former owner. Parts are easily obtainable through the club, and there are several events during the year that are certainly worth attending.
The transferrable registration has also been valued at £3,250 by Reg Transfers Ltd.
