Seller's comments about 1939' Austin Gordon Royal Limousine

For sale, 1939 austin gordon royal limousine
due to retirement, our 1939 austin gordon royal limousine has reluctantly been placed on the market. A stunning 7 seater, with private cab and sliding glass screens, this beautiful example has been a wedding car for much of its life, and may be the last remaining road worthy example. During my ownership, the vehicle has been stored in a dry garage at my home, serviced and maintained to the highest standard and kept off road during the winter months to avoid salty roads.
prior to my ownership, significant restoration work had already taken place and an extensive file contains restoration photographs, receipts, original manual and original sales brochure. Parts are straightforward to come by. A box of spare parts comes with the sale of the car. Restoration included being re-upholstered in navy blue leather; The car has a stunning interior of leather and polished ash.
this restoration included
• body completely stripped back to metal
• complete respray (originally navy blue - old english white is the colour we inherited and chose to maintain due to its use as a wedding car)
• completely stripped internally prior to the framework being refurbished/ rebuilt.
• new floor boards and seat framing
• restoration of the majority of the ash framing in the body work
• a complete re-trim of the interior in navy leather using over 7 full hides
• new headlining
• new glazing throughout
• rebuilt carburettor
• recored radiator
• rebuilt transmission 'cushion drive link'
• rebushed springs
• refurbished dampers
• re-chroming of all chromed parts inside and out
• full indicator set
• new carpeting
• electronic ignition
• lined petrol tank
• rebuilt all four wings plating as necessary
• rebuilt water pump and fan belts replaced
• all new ignition leads and suppressor caps to assist in reliability
• very rare 'covercraft' wheel embellishers
the car is solid underneath. Tyres are in excellent condition. Mot and tax exempt. The accurate mileage is not known as the speedometer has been changed in the past but it has covered approximately 700 miles during our ownership over 3yrs. The engine runs beautifully, starting on the first turn and the car glides through the gears and is a true joy to drive.
as legend has it, an admiralty fleet car when new reputedly transporting a certain lieutenant-colonel montgomery to the review of the fleet in portsmouth in 1939. evidence of this type of use is illustrated by the very rare spoon 'arrowhead' on the cowl used to mount a flagstaff for official duties.
