Seller's comments about 1970' Austin-Healey Sprite

1970 Austin-Healey Sprite Mk IV 1275ccWe are delighted to offer this beautiful and thoughtfully upgraded 1970 Austin-Healey Sprite Mk IV, first registered in Reading in August 1970. A highly sorted example, this Sprite has benefitted from careful, enthusiast ownership and substantial mechanical investment, resulting in a lively, usable classic British sports car.The Mk IV represents the final and most developed iteration of the 'Spridget' line, powered by the torquey 1, 275cc A-Series engine , the same unit fitted in period performance models such as the Mini Cooper S. Lightweight, direct and wonderfully balanced, the Sprite delivers pure, unfiltered open-top motoring in the traditional British style.During seven years of professional restorer ownership, this car has been substantially upgraded to fast road specification. The 1275cc engine has been fully rebuilt and carefully enhanced with Omega +0. 040” pistons, a balanced crankshaft assembly, David Newman 270 camshaft, MED uprated oil pump with vernier cam pulley, uprated valve springs and Rimflo valves, and an LCB exhaust manifold. The ignition and fuel systems have been upgraded, while the aluminium rocker cover and WOSP high-torque starter motor complete the engine package. The gearbox has been professionally overhauled, paired with a lightweight flywheel and Helix clutch, and a balanced propshaft completes the driveline, ensuring lively and responsive performance. The body and paintwork are exceptional, with a glorious lustre and depth of shine that perfectly complements the car’s polished mechanical specification. Braking has been comprehensively refreshed with new calipers, discs, and master cylinder, while the suspension has been rebuilt and uprated with improved dampers and polybushes. The result is a car that handles confidently yet retains excellent road manners, making it a pleasure to drive on both spirited runs and everyday roads. The interior has been thoughtfully refurbished with a new Don Trimming DeLuxe mohair hood and inertia reel seat belts. Recent new Falken tyres, including an unused spare, complete the package.Included in the very comprehensive history file, numerous service and repair invoices totalling in excess of £6000, previous Mots, original owners handbook and Haynes owners workshop manual. This is not a standard Sprite, but a properly engineered fast road example that starts readily, pulls strongly, and delivers the analogue driving experience for which these cars are renowned. A superb opportunity to acquire a lively, usable, and sensibly priced classic British sports car, ready to enjoy immediately.Classed as a historic vehicle benefitting from Mot exemption and free road tax however, we will supply the car with a full 12 months Mot for your peace of mind.
