Lot 38 V
1935 BMW 315 convertible sedan (no limit / no reserve)
One of only 1,378 convertible sedans built
Body by Ambi-Budd Berlin
Extensively restored from 1993 to 2003

From 1934 to 1937, BMW offered the 315 as a more powerful successor to the 303. A total of 34 hp was mobilized from 1,490 cc displacement, enough to crack the 100 km / h mark. The successful model was also offered at the factory as a convertible sedan with bodies by Ambi-Budd. Even back then, this body shape appealed to connoisseurs, of whom at least 1,378 indulged in such a six-cylinder from BMW.

According to the factory, this BMW 315 was delivered on December 6, 1935, to a military authority. According to customs papers, the car was reintroduced to Germany in April 1986. Between 1993 and 2003 the 315 was completely restored. The photo documentation shows that the BMW was rebuilt from the frame on. Everything was dismantled, and the wooden bodywork was partly renewed. The mechanics were also extensively renovated. The engine was freshly overhauled in the frame and photos show all revised chassis parts. The interior has been renewed in leather, the roof has been re-covered and the electrics have been rewired. Here someone put a lot of effort into creating the first sporty 3 Series from BMW. The 315 has been in a BMW collection since 2005. It has probably never been driven properly since the restoration, but it survived the German historical inspection two years ago without a headache.
