Here for sale is my extremely rare and mostly complete but dismantled 1933 BSA 10 hp Peerless Coupe that I have owned since 1997. The reason it is in the state it is I am happy to tell, but would take too long to type out, but sufficient to say it involved the death of one restorer and the criminal actions of another, the result of which I can not get any enthusiasm for doing the car myself, which is what I should have done 20+ years ago.
Now, the car. From research I have sporadically undertaken over the years, I believe only 3 of this model were produced, all of which appear to have survived. This one was I believe the first as it had a wooden luggage compartment (boot) where the later two had pressed metal rears. I did have a book that was a collection of road reports for BSA cars that I believe featured this car, but the restorer lost/sold that as well. It is I believe complete with the exception of the following: the engine and Wilson pre-select gearbox are missing, along with the headlights and front side lights. In addition, one of the front seat squabs is missing. That is the bad bits. The good: The chassis was blasted, primed and painted, the majority of the chromework is new (a lot has never been unwrapped from the platers) and the structural steel floors etc are in excellent condition. It has all been kept in dry storage. I think that everything else is there and can be reused or used as a pattern. The roof base is in good order, and was originally covered in horse hair and leatherette, an idea copied later by Riley on the RM models. An engine and gearbox will not be too hard to source, as the same unit was used on BSA rear wheel drive saloons as well as the period Lanchester 10 saloon. Side and Headlights are readily available and the other seat squab will make a good pattern.
It will be a straightforward restoration, ending up with a rare and pretty car of some value. One of the other two was for sale in the USA a while ago, running but in need of full restoration for $15k. I have spent the last 18 years looking at this car in my shed, thinking how straightforward it would be to restore, but because of the history with me, the enthusiasm is lacking and I leave it in the hope that it will return. After all these years, I have to accept it is not going to, I need the space and with regret it is time to pass it on to a new owner. The body is just placed on the chassis, and in the photos I have loosely assembled the panels to show what it should look like. You will need a van and a trailer, and lots of rope to collect it. I can offer delivery at a £1 a mile, but it will have to be paid for in advance. I have nearly 100 photos showing all aspects and parts, but would hope you will view to see what you are getting, and please note I am in Aberdeenshire, in the North East of Scotland. As to price, I am open to offers. I paid £3,400 for it in 1996, and have another £15k plus invested in it due to the aforementioned conman of a restorer. I know I am not going to get anything like that back, but would like to see something, the chrome plating cost £1200 in 1997. I would consider a part exchange or a swap for anything old and mechanical, the more unusual the better, try me. I am happy to take calls to discuss the car.
