Seller's comments about 1968' Daimler Sovereign
We are delighted to offer this beautifully presented Daimler 4. 2 Sovereign, finished in British Racing Green with Red leather upholstery, fitted from new with automatic transmission and sporting chrome wire wheels. We have known this car for over four years now, and whilst the car has only covered approaching 6000 miles since major work in the late 1990’s and 2000’s, in late 2023 almost £14, 000 has been spent taken the car to an excellent standard.
The Daimler Sovereign was a truly prestigious motor car built using the 4. 2 litre six cylinder Jaguar engine, available with either manual overdrive transmission or Borg Warner Model 8 Automatic gearbox, and standard equipment included Varamatic ratio power steering, heated rear window, electric clock, Girling servo assisted disc brakes on all wheels and fully independent suspension. The interior styling made lavish use of walnut veneers, leather upholstery and heavily padded surrounds to the instrument panel, parcel shelf and door capping's. Daimler quoted that enthusiasts everywhere would welcome this elegant and powerful model which combines the very latest developments in modern high-performance engineering and built in safety with all the true characteristics that have made Daimler prestige motoring world famous. On driving the car its clear Daimler's statement was accurate; it really is something special to drive. The fantastic Jaguar 4. 2 engine offers exceptional power and performance and with the all-round disc brakes, independent suspension and power steering, the car feels very advanced for 1968. This is a luxurious, prestige car ideal for long distance motoring in comfort, and with the automatic transmission, the Daimler is just effortless to drive and will not disappoint.
The history file confirms the car was a show winner in the early 2000's and part of the recent program of work was ensuring the car presented superbly externally as it did back then. All four doors were removed from the car, re-skinned as required and then beautifully finished as per factory standards. Paintwork was then carried out as required. We can confirm the body is first class and the paintwork and chrome beautiful. Mechanically the Daimler was treated to some major engine work in 1997 and receipts are on file for all new brakes, new suspension bushes, anti-roll bar links, steering bushes, ball joints gaiters, front Gaz shocks, internal steering box seals, new exhaust system, hub oil seals, and all new splined hubs in the early 2000's. Photos and invoices are on file showing the rear axle subframe being completely overhauled and rebuilt with new rear springs, shocks, discs and pads, the frame also painted and detailed. The interior trim was treated to a new wool headlining, sun visors were re-trimmed, and a new carpet set fitted. Recently the Daimler has had the boot compartment re-trimmed, seats re-foamed and some subtle interior improvements carried out. Other work in late 2023 included a classic radio, full underbody waxoyl, full service, new oil pressure switch, new rear seat belts and a brake master cylinder.
Having had the recent diligent preparation work, this Daimler offers fantastic value and is ready to use and enjoy. On the road performance is first class ensuring this Daimler is a car that can be used for long distance touring, local shows, events and rallies. We do not see many Daimler 420's and are delighted to offer this highly desirable car onto the market.
