Seller's comments about 1972' Ferrari Dino 246
The Ferrari 246 GT. One of the most beautiful Italian sports cars ever built, with a design that remains astonishingly elegant more than fifty years later. And then there is this color: Dino Rosso. A warm, deep red with an almost orange undertone that, in sunlight, evokes the glow of an Italian sunset. Truly stunning. This 1972 example is also a European-specification car, carefully restored and rebuilt with incredible precision. And with a Dino, that is exactly what you want to see.The Dino was born from Ferrari’s desire to develop a compact, lightweight, and exceptionally agile sports car powered by a six-cylinder engine. The name was a tribute to Alfredo “Dino” Ferrari, Enzo Ferrari’s son, who played an important role in the development of Ferrari’s V6 technology. The result represented an entirely new direction for the marque: no large V12 up front, but a compact V6 mounted transversely behind the seats. In 1967, the first Dino 206 GT appeared, designed by Pininfarina and built by Scaglietti. The body was a masterpiece of Italian design, with its low nose, pronounced wheel arches, flowing roofline, and elegant rear end. When the 246 GT was introduced in 1969, engine capacity increased to 2. 4 liters and the car received a slightly longer wheelbase. The original beauty remained entirely intact, while performance was further improved.Under the hood sits the distinctive 2. 4-liter V6 with a 65-degree bank angle, twin overhead camshafts, and three twin-choke Weber carburetors. In European specification, this engine produced approximately 195 horsepower. A wonderful figure for a compact sports car of this size, especially when combined with the five-speed manual transmission, independent suspension, and beautifully balanced chassis. But the numbers tell only a small part of the story. A good Dino is something you have to feel.At Gallery Aaldering, we have known the 246 GT for more than four decades. During that time, we have seen, driven, and closely experienced many examples. As a result, we know how a good Dino should sound and respond. Sometimes, you can almost tell from the moment the engine fires. The way the V6 settles into its idle and then responds to the throttle tells you an enormous amount. And this Dino? It starts immediately, runs exceptionally well, and responds to the throttle with complete immediacy. No hesitation, just that wonderful crispness you only experience in a truly well-tuned classic Ferrari. It is precisely this refined mechanical feel that makes the Dino so special. The Dino 246 GT is also renowned for its remarkable handling. Its compact dimensions, excellent weight distribution, and direct steering make it feel strikingly light on its feet. Where a classic twelve-cylinder Ferrari impresses above all with power and flexibility, the Dino wins you over with balance, precision, and involvement. It invites you to drive, seek out corners, and let the engine climb through its beautiful rev range. This example was carefully restored and rebuilt. The quality of that work is visible throughout the entire presentation of the car. The body is beautifully straight, the panel fit is neat, and the Dino Rosso paint is in particularly fine condition. It is a color that highlights the curves of the Pininfarina design beautifully. In the shade, it appears warm and deep, while sunlight brings out its almost orange character. The details are equally impressive. The glass presents very neatly, as do the wheels and the rest of the exterior. These are exactly the areas that make the difference between a beautiful Dino and a Dino you find yourself looking at again and again. The interior deserves just as much attention. The leather upholstery is in lovely condition, and the entire cabin has a refined, high-quality appearance. From the dashboard and instruments to the upholstery, seams, and stitching, the attention to detail is visible everywhere. The finish suits the character of the car beautifully and reflects the care with which the restoration was carried out.A 1972 Ferrari Dino 246 GT in European specification, finished in stunning Dino Rosso. Carefully restored and rebuilt, with beautiful bodywork, an exceptionally fine interior, and an iconic V6. A Ferrari that impresses from every angle, but only truly reveals its character once you take your place behind the wheel.Interested?
