Seller's comments about 1977' Ford Escort
1977 Ford Escort Mexico Mk2 which has only had 3 owners since being registered. The last owner had it from 2011. We are told the previous owner to that, had it from new and the dealer was the first registered keeper but cant verify that. Its covered 69000 miles and has only done 2000 since 2012. We have the current V5, 10 old MOTs for the car but not a lot of service paperwork or receipts. This car has all its original Mexico parts fitted and is definitely its original shell.
Body - MK2 Mexico strengthened shell. All the right brackets are in the right places including spare wheel well bracket, speedo cable bracket etc. Strut top number is still visible and original, not been restamped. The car looks very well and is pretty straight. You will fins shinier concours cars out there but the appeal of this car is its originality in my opinion. Good inner wings, floors doors, sills, arches. We are told the car has had one wing, a slam panel and been repainted during its lifetime. Its also had a couple of minor floor repairs. I know there will be some people who look at this and think on an R reg it should have bigger strut top holes. We thought that too but researched it and it changed in Feb 77. This car was built Mar 77 and registered Apr 77 so its all correct. Grille has a small crack on top edge. Good quarter bumpers. Correct F. O. R. D lettering on bootlid.
Mechanics - Original matching numbers 1. 6 Pinto with alloy sump, alloy engine mounts. Original 4 speed box with alloy bellhousing. Rear axle with tramp bars. Car starts runs and drives. Not been used a lot over the last 15 years. Clutch is good brakes are good. Not sure when it last had a timing belt or service.
Interior - Original seats and door cards. Seats have recently had a few sympathetic repairs at the local trimmer using original material and they look superb. Good carpet and headlining.
Wheels - 5 Original steels with good tyres. Presentable but could do with a refurb to make mint.
This is a very tidy, low owners, low mileage original car. Its not concours but could be made into one if someone wanted to. They are only original once though!!!
