The Lotus Elan was originally designed to replace the Elite in 1962 and was the first road car that used a backbone chassis, rather than a monocoque. During its production it was recognised as being one of the best sports cars of all time, with its excellent performance and road-holding. This particular Elan forms part of series 4 and is Type 45, which benefits from proper carpeting, enhanced door trims with armrests and a removable hard top roof.
