Seller's comments about 1968' Mercedes-Benz 280

Mercedes-Benz 280 SE (W111) – February 1968

At a time when Mercedes-Benzes were still handcrafted, with a detailed attention to detail, resulting in a unique build quality, in 1961 the very elegant Coupé and Cabriolet bodies were born in 1961 from the W111 platform.

Designed by Paul Bracq, its long, slender silhouette is nowadays considered timeless and one of the most beautiful of the brand, and it was with this model that the end of the iconic “heckflosse” design (or as it is affectionately known around here, tail) was marked. of fish).

At the time, this chassis, together with the most advanced mechanics, formed the top of the range for Mercedes-Benz. It was the most technologically advanced platform that the manufacturer offered and in this two-door configuration, it was a true high-performance luxury car, only matching up to competition in models like the Corniche or Continental Mulliner Park Ward, from the manufacturers Rolls-Royce and Bentley respectively. It is without a doubt the most sought after and most interesting models of this German brand.

The specimen we have here, configured in Beige Gray 725 on dark brown skin 8010, tells a very interesting story. He met its first owner in the United States in 1968 (where a large number of these units were exported), with whom he stayed during the first years of its existence. It was then acquired by a Portuguese family residing in Florida, USA, with whom he remained for practically his entire life.

In 1990, they decided to return to Portugal and the esteem for the 280 SE was such that they didn't let it fall behind. Although it has never been meticulously restored, it is a car that has been extremely well maintained and cherished over the years and as such is in very good condition and retains an impressive level of originality.

Of all the optional equipment that the factory provided, this copy contains practically all the items, namely: Automatic box with “floor Shift”, 4 electric windows, electric sunroof, Blaupunkt telephone, air conditioning, power steering, among others. We also emphasize that the engine and gearbox are original (matching numbers).

The last repairs and maintenance have already been witnessed in our possession, where we highlight the last intervention carried out by Mercedes-Benz Classic Center to seal leaks and make various adjustments, whose bill (which we provide) totaled more than 8500€.
