1 of only 1232 built factory convertiblesParticularly as an elegant convertible, there is hardly any comparable vehicle that offers as much as the 280 SE 3. 5 litre convertible at such a high level. First of all, it is a very rare and exclusive Mercedes-Benz Cabriolet, largely built by hand, which has only been produced 1, 232 times. Then it is a fast and reliable touring car that can be driven in traffic without any problems even today. And it is one of the few cabriolets with five seats.
This car offered by us was ordered in 1969 by a Bielefeld entrepreneur from the local Mercedes-Benz dealer Kirstein & Sauer and then registered on April 15, 1970.As extras the car was delivered ex works among others:
46/ 2 rear fog light     49. 95 DM
51/ 6 Radio Becker Mexico 666. 00 DM
53/ 1 Antenna automatic  249. 75 DM
61/ 6 Fog lights      138. 75 DM
63/ 0 Radial tyres      58. 83 DM
67/ 3 larger battery     29. 97 DMIncluding these extras, the list price was thus a proud DM 38, 544. 75.
The original color ex works was "light ivory" 670.
After 1. 5 years the first owner sold the car to a well-known Bremen shipping company and shipyard.
In 1979, after eight years in the service of the company, the shipowner took over the car privately and kept it in his possession until 1988. So from 1971 to 1988 the car had one owner and due to the transfer from the company to private ownership two registered owners.
The third owner, a fashion entrepreneur from the Stuttgart area then kept the car for 26 years until he sold it to the preowner of the current owner in 2014.
The service booklet is well kept and has received 17 entries over the decades, 12 of them in Mercedes-Benz authorised workshops.
The car was registered in Germany throughout and was always in good hands. Accordingly, it is in a very nice original condition, which also shows in the very good original interior.
Hoods and doors close perfectly and without effort, as you would expect from good, unrestored Mercedes-Benz cars.
About 25 years ago the car was repainted by its third owner in plain black 040, which harmonizes very well with the dark red interior.
The car drives very well. The engine runs very clean and powerful and the automatic transmission shifts perfectly.
