Those smooth, sleek lines make the 1950 Mercury Eight Coupe a car to be admired at first sight. And your first drive will make you admire its down to earth roadability. Long, broad, sturdy, the better than ever 1950 Mercury Eight Coupe is sure to be a hit with style-wise people wherever its seen. From the 1950 sales brochure.
Mercury was right when they stated “A car to be admired at first sight”. The styling of vehicles from the 1950s were in the prime of the “Dream Car Era”. Automobile designers were starting to let their creativity take over and some of the best and most iconic vehicles were starting to appear in the auto shows and highways of the day. This 1950 Mercury Eight Coupe was fully restored over 10 years ago and is still running on its original 6-volt system. The bulbous lid, rounded rear quarters, and polished chrome make this coupe stand out, and the black paint is polished to a mirror finish.
Under the hood you will find the original Mercury 255ci Flathead V8 with its Tea-Pot 1BBL carburetor and massive factory brass radiator. This motor was removed earlier this year (2026) for a new fresh coat of paint to bring it back to full originality. Still mated to its original 3-speed manual transmission with the working overdrive, this Mercury Eight glides down the road smooth and straight. Even with the drum brakes, she still stops quickly and shifts smoothly.
The interior is large and spacious, with room enough for 4-6 passengers. The large steering wheel allows easier viewing of the original dark navy gray steel dash. One thing to note: the radio is no longer functional, and the fuel sending unit was just recently replaced. This coupe is ready to cruise and to be enjoyed!
