I write this with a heavy heart as I adore this car, but needs must unfortunately... A Mercury Comet 4 Door Station Wagon but being 1960 model was just called a Comet, sold through certain Comet dealerships. (I will refrain from giving a massive boring history lesson on Comet's).
Solid underneath and has had a multitude of new parts fitted, drives beautifully, and gets so much attention everywhere.
It has a rebuilt 144 cui straight six. The gearbox is a 3-speed column change manual, no slush-box auto. Brakes have been upgraded to a dual circuit system with all new hard and flexi lines, brake shoes were almost new upon inspection last year. New dampers all round.
Bespoke centre console made to house gauges as well as additional switches for screen wash, fan, tailgate and tacho. The tacho is a temporary measure while the engine is being run in.
Paintwork isn’t perfect, it was in a barn in North Wales for 5 years prior to my ownership. Polishes up well but has the odd blemish here and there, she's also over 60 years old so to be expected. Interior is in good shape and had been re-upholstered in the states, to make it perfect I would suggest the headliner needs replacing but that’s it. I registered the car and am the first UK owner. Also comes with a ton of spares that I've been amassing.
This is a genuinely rare car, only 18, 000 produced in 1960, this car was built on the 27th of June making it a fairly early example. You are unlikely to see another one, ever. This is believed to be the only one of its kind in Europe. Under the skin it is a Ford Falcon so easy to get many parts for and they don’t cost the earth either. Cheap to insure and valued at £20, 000.
Overall, a very presentable car with potential to become perfect.
I don’t want to part with it but I’m looking to free up funds and space. I have videos of it running and it'll be at the weekender on Saturday. Any questions feel free to contact me on the details below if I’m unable to pick up please leave a message and I’ll get back to you.
