Seller's comments about 1947' Mercury V8 Convertible

1947 Mercury V8 Convertible
Chassis number: 1967386
Registration Number: 322UXR
Purchased by the previous owner but one at auction in 2004, this car has had a lot of money spent upon it. A full rebuild of the Flathead V8 engine was undertaken incorporating a few performance related upgrades. A slightly hotter Isky Cam was installed along with a Mallory dual point distributor. Edelbrock heads are also fitted along with an offenhauser inlet & twin Stromberg down draught carburettors. Electrics were upgraded to 12 volt at the same time with a view to reliability.
As a result the car runs beautifully & has covered few miles since residing as it does in a small Scottish collection amongst similar cars. It really sounds the part & is considerably faster then when built, but despite the perfomance upgrades it still makes for a superb boulevard cruiser. The engine bay is to show standards & really is quite an eye full once the bonnet is opened.
Exterior paintwork is maroon & in very good condition. The interior matches also in maroon & a beige hood completes the ensemble. The car is very very smart with the weakest point being the hood which although completely serviceable is showing its age & would probably be my first job to change as a winter project to new material.
These Ford Mercuries are truly a luxury vehicle with a very very comfortable ride & huge interior space. The boot is cavernous & well suited to swallowing vast quantities of luggage for continental touring. A large file of bills comes with the car; many from respected american vintage specialists West Hoathly Garage which embues one with immediate confidence. This is further enhanced when one visits the owners Edinburgh garage & see the other cars in the stable & the kind of exhaustive restoration works & repairs that go on there with an emphasis on Rolls Royce & Bentley.
Viewings are by prior appointment in Edinburgh. We can deliver from there world wide, or alternatively take the Caledonian sleeper up there & drive it home. Its that kind of a car.
