This stunning, fully rebuilt MGB Roadster is a RHD Home Market example that was manufactured on the 9th-12th August 1965, leaving the factory in Tartan Red with Black trim. The MG was then supplied new by Belfast dealer Leslie Porter Limited and registered 1868 UI in Londonderry. Having spent its early life in Northern Ireland, the MGB had just one owner in South Yorkshire from 1986 to 2017 who in 2006/ 2007 commissioned a full Heritage shell restoration.
Since restoration the MGB has covered less than 6000 miles and as result both drives, and presents in exceptional condition. Invoices and documentation on file confirm the bodyshell was completely prepared and painted to include underside, and then built up with new brightwork, rebuilt unleaded engine, renewed carbs, new wiring loom, rebuilt suspension and steering, stripped and rebuilt rear axle, new windscreen and frame and all ancillaries overhauled or replaced to finish the engine bay to show standard. The interior was completely re-trimmed, a new hood fitted, the car cavity waxoyled and fitting with a set of Minilight style wheels.
From completion in 2007 to 2017 just 200 miles were covered but annual MOT's show the steady but low mileage. The MGB was sold in 2017 after 31 years with one owner and a London based MGB specialists carried out over £8500 of work that included fitting a re-manufactured exchange engine and gearbox and new clutch. The MGB was upgraded with an alternator, electronic ignition and poly bushes, and also treated to new coil springs, propshaft UJ's, top and bottom steering column bushes, new rear brake shoes and a new fuel pump. The MGB was now fully refreshed and ready for more regular use, with almost 6000 miles covered between 2017 and 2024.
1868 UI is a superbly presented car with an exceptional straight bodyshell, beautiful body colour underside and the Tartan Red paint finish all these years on is still of a very high standard. The chrome work is excellent, the engine bay stunning, and the interior is equally as superbly presented. The hood was replaced in 2017 and is excellent, the wheels still sharp, the boot nicely carpeted ensuring an all round first class finish. On the road the MGB is impressive, the engine is strong, fit and holding excellent oil pressure, gear changes and the overdrive are smooth and the handling and braking feel second to none. This is a superbly restored MGB, and its more recent expenditure has ensured it still drives like a fresh rebuild. This is a car that won't disappoint and is ready for some fine weather open touring.
