Offered for sale we have this original 1971 British Leyland Mini Cooper S Mk 3 fully restored to authentic standard spec. The Heritage Documentation shows it to have been manufactured on the 11th February 1971 for the home market and is one of 1572 produced in total, the lowest and rarest of all Cooper S’s built, less than half of which were UK right-hand drive and it’s believed there are less than 400 registered. Finished in correct flame red, the shell is original and has been fully restored with heritage panels and retains all its tags and original mk3 features, 4 vent sills, drip rails, twin bolt sub-frame, boot board brackets and twin tanks. The interior is original black vinyl spec. with correct mk3 steering wheel and new Newton Commercial carpet. The full length Britax roof has been fitted since new. Mechanically, this mk3 S retains its 1275cc AEG 312 thick flange block with original 12G1805 big valve head. The crank is the correct AEG 623 EN16T and new standard camshaft. The 22G1128 close ratio S gearbox has been rebuilt to standard spec. The engine breaths through rebuilt twin SU HS2 carbs, standard airbox and Maniflow LCB manifold and exhaust. Suspension is original hydrolastic with rebuilt displacers along with adjustable toe and camber bracket’s. The vehicle is fitted with rare Cooper S 4 1/ 2in x 10 Dunlop steels fitted with Yokohama 008’s. It can also be sold with a set of 5 10” Minilite wheels with Yokohama advance. A professionally restored example, this rare “S” comes with a detailed and extensive history throughout its 51 years and 6 previous owners.
