Gateway Classic Cars Milwaukee is proud to present this 1940 Nash 4022 Opera Ambassador, a classic automobile that embodies the spirit of a bygone era. This Nash is believed to be the last known example of its model still on the road today in the United States—or possibly even the world.
The current owner purchased the Nash from its original owner in New Jersey in October 1977.
The sleek black exterior received extensive refinishing in November 2003, with four coats of black paint and four coats of clear coat applied following bodywork. The 234 cubic-inch inline-six engine and transmission underwent a full rebuild at 67,000 miles. Since the rebuild, the car has traveled fewer than 12,000 miles over the past 22 years.
This six-cylinder starts smoothly using a clutch-depress start system. An interesting feature is the hazard light switch mounted on the steering column, a feature more commonly associated with vehicles from the 1950s and 1960s.
Move inside to discover a thoughtfully designed interior featuring gray wool-cloth blend upholstery that complements the car's exterior with understated elegance. The opposing fold-away rear seats are a feature unique to this model.
The cabin is equipped with a centrally mounted AM radio, providing a touch of nostalgia. The addition of aftermarket seat belts adds a layer of practicality and security while preserving the car's vintage character.
The 1940 Nash 4022 Opera Ambassador is a rare piece of automotive history, located only about 30 minutes from where it was originally built in Kenosha, Wisconsin. Its combination of classic styling, unique features, and historical significance makes it a cherished addition for any enthusiast of vintage automobiles.
