Fans of Pontiacs and American motoring history want to take note of this car. The 1955 Pontiacs like this Chieftain had a new V8 and modern 50s styling that was a turning point. And this is a wonderfully restored car with a terrific story. So when you have the opportunity to own such a great example, at such a value price, its time to act quickly. The Chieftain was the entry-level Pontiac in 1955, but it has enough bright trim and an awesome two-tone to make sure it looks anything but basic. You can tell there has been some investment that has gone into this significant Pontiac over the years. In fact, the story were told goes back more than 20 years. The consignor knew of two Chieftains in Connecticut that were restored exactly the same by a father and son so they could have a matched pair. The father eventually offered both for sale in 2002, and the consignor considered himself lucky to get two passion project Pontiacs finished to such a high level. He would go on to sell both cars, but it made such an impact on him that he bought this one back! And you can see exactly why. This still shows good care from back when the father and son did the restoration. The Marietta Blue and Beaumont Blue are a period-correct two-tone that continues to look attractive today. Pontiacs were transitioning into quite a stylish company in 1955, and so we love the look of breakthrough style in the brightwork with creative chrome bumpers and trim line that separates the two-tone. But they still made sure to leave the classic and iconic silver streak hood. Even the wheels are impressively vintage with Marietta Blue paint, classic hubcaps, and cool-cruising whitewalls. The interior continues the impressive time capsule feeling. The pleated upholstery on the wide bench seats has a comfortable feel, and the door panel inserts were done to match. Theres plush carpeting, a smooth dash, and a retro-cool steering wheel with the Chief logo at the center. It shows a high level of care, right down to details like the working dome light and AM radio. More of the cool original attitude is under the hood. What made the 1955s so great was the new 287 cubic-inch V8. This OHV was a motor built by Pontiac and began to establish its reputation for providing performance in the GM lineup. With this kind of history, its not only nice to see the correct displacement in this coupe, but also cool classic details like the air cleaner and Strato-Streak valve covers to give it such an authentic presentation. But more than just look great this is a true cruising machine that fires up nicely and shifts smoothly with the three-speed automatic transmission. This Chieftain will stand apart from other 55s, like the Chevys... And best of all, youll pay far less than you would for a Tri-Five. All you need to do is be the first to grab this deal.
