Whilst remaining restrained in their design, Porsche was constantly improving the 911, and the 1970 C and D-series benefited from an upgrade in engine size to 2, 195cc, the ‘T’ was fitted with ventilated discs from the ‘S’, and a 5-speed box became standard. Alterations to suspension pick-up points improved the handling and gave a little more steering feel. The aluminium hoop not only supported the removable Targa roof, but provided the occupants with industry leading protection in the event of an accident.Built in 1971 as a late D-series, left-hand drive car, it's understood from the history file that this early Targa resided in the United States for nearly 20 years prior to arriving here and subsequently being UK-registered on 5th September 1990 with 33-years of sole ownership beginning a year later. Presenting well thanks to a fresh coat of Tangerine Orange, the black leatherette interior appears to be original, showing lovely patina, as are the well worn carpets. Later additions include a three-spoke Moto-Lita steering wheel and a Porsche-embossed wooden gear knob. The history file evidences maintenance and remedial works by renowned Porsche specialists Autofarm of Bicester from 2017 up until the most recent and extensive works in 2023.
