It represented a radical shift for the brand, being the first Rolls-Royce to feature a monocoque (unitary) chassis rather than a separate body-on-frame design. The Silver Shadow I underwent a significant engine update during its production run: 1965–1970: Originally launched with a 6, 230cc V8 engine.1970–1976: The engine was enlarged to 6, 750cc (6. 75L) to provide better torque and power.Most models used a 3-speed automatic gearbox, though early UK models featured a 4-speed automatic.A 1968 model typical of the early series produced approximately 200hp at 4, 000rpm, achieving 0-60mph in roughly 10. 9 seconds.
