It represented a radical shift for the brand, being the first Rolls-Royce to feature a monocoque (unitary) chassis rather than a separate body-on-frame design. The Silver Shadow I underwent a significant engine update during its production run: 1965–1970: Originally launched with a 6, 230cc V8 engine.1970–1976: The engine was enlarged to 6, 750cc (6. 75L) to provide better torque and power. Most models used a 3-speed automatic gearbox, though early UK models featured a 4-speed automatic.A 1968 model typical of the early series produced approximately 200hp at 4, 000rpm, achieving 0-60mph in roughly 10. 9 seconds. It utilised a sophisticated high-pressure hydraulic system (licensed from Citroën) for dual-circuit braking and highly effective self-levelling suspension, giving it a legendary 'wafting' ride quality.Known for its opulent cabin featuring Wilton carpets, lamb’s wool rugs, high-grade leather hides, and extensive walnut wood veneers.Later models included features like electric seats, cruise control, and early forms of automatic air conditioning. This 53 year old Rolls-Royce Shadow was in the acclaimed ITV drama 'Nolly', charting the life story of the late Noele Gordon (1919-1985) and starring Helena Bonham Carter.Ripe but for some minor recommissioning, the vehicle starts and drives well with the trademark effortless power steering.Boasting some new mechanical parts and two service books- an extensive history supports the car.A previous keeper paid £8000 so it just four years ago..This is a great example of the ubiquitous Shadow 1- and with prices for these luxury leviathans on the up- this could prove a wise buy for the discerning classic car buyer...Go on- treat yourself..!Estimate £5000-6000This vehicle is located near Rugby, Warwickshire from where it will need to be collected.Motorscan report and videos available on request.Viewing is by appointment, please contact the office to arrange.
