Seller's comments about 1953' Rolls-Royce Silver Wraith
Motorcar Studio is pleased to offer this 1953 Rolls-Royce Silver Wraith with coachwork by Freestone & Webb. This coachbuilt Rolls-Royce has been in the same family since the late 1950s, when it was purchased by the present owners grandfather from Jack Barclay in London for use during his frequent visits to England. This car remained in the UK for a few years before being imported to the US in the 1960s. The present owners father inherited the car in the 1980s, and then he took over the stewardship himself of this family heirloom around 10 years ago. Finished in two-tone black and dark green, the car appears nearly all black in photos and in person - but under direct sunlight, the subtle contrast between the colors is quite handsome. Always garaged, never wrecked or rusty. This example presents overall to a good driver standard inside and out with light patina but no significant deterioration to note. Wood and steel structural components are solid with no rot. The Interior, finished in pale green leather, shows consistent patina throughout and feels lived in, but not neglected or abused. Likewise the wood, carpets and headliner show gentle patina but are entirely presentable. The rear seat is a comfortable place to spend time, thanks to folding tray tables and pop-up jump seats suitable for small children. This is a short wheelbase divider car, although the power-operated divider window between the front and rear seats is inop. Under the bonnet is a Rolls-Royce 4.6 litre inline six cylinder engine mated to a four-speed manual gearbox. Recent maintenance includes an oil service, tune-up, fuel pump, fuel sending unit, rebuilt carburetor, new generator and voltage regular, plus a cooling system overhaul with re-cored radiator, new thermostat and hoses. This example starts easily and runs and drives well (indeed, it still glides silently and smoothly across both highways and city streets). Spare, tools and owners books are included with the sale.
