The 1968 Shelby GT500 KR was the culmination of the many Mustang versions created through the collaboration between Ford and Carroll Shelby. When a new version of the 428 Police Interceptor engine was developed, featuring improved cylinder heads and more efficient exhaust manifolds, the 428 Cobra Jet was born. The engine soon found its way into the Shelby GT500, which became the GT500 KR, or “King of the Road”.Its power was officially rated at just 335 horsepower, a figure widely considered to be significantly underrated. The engine is said to have produced at least 400 horsepower in reality. This is one of 1, 053 King of the Road coupés built. After spending half a century in its homeland, it made its way to Sweden, where it has been since 2011. Today, the car is in good, though slightly patinated, condition—a state that makes it enjoyable to drive without having to treat it with kid gloves. For 25 years, this Shelby was kept at a Ford dealership in Costa Mesa, California. The car underwent a major inspection before being shipped to Sweden. The casting numbers on the engine block appear to be original, as do all other components apart from the air cleaner. The odometer reads 49, 827 miles (approximately 81, 188 km).For the full presentation, including 25 high-resolution images and a complete equipment list, please visit vonBraun. com.
