SUNBEAM 1101E HISTORY FILE
1925 Sunbeam 20/60 sports tourer, chassis number 1101E, engine number 1125E, British racing green over black. Sunbeam motorcars have an illustrious racing and land speed record breaking history. In period they were on par with other great marques such as Bentley, Lagonda and Rolls Royce, and now offer the discerning enthusiast and collector outstanding value in today's market. In 1995 1101E was in a dilapidated state and the decision was made to embark on a full chassis up restoration, and in the process a new sports tourer body was made and fitted. During the restorations, which took eight years, 5,628 man hours and nearly £70,000 to complete. This was in the 1990s costs have soared. The Sunbeam was meticulously restored by marque experts. 1101E is finished in a beautiful dark shade of British racing green with black wings, which was achieved with 20 coats of cellulose, which has endowed the paint with a deep lustre. To complement the coachwork, all of the brightwork has been nickel plated, and the interior has been re-trimmed in tan leather. The mohair weather gear consists of a hood, full and half tonneau covers, side screens and hood bag. The rear seat passengers have the luxury of an Auster screen to shield them from the elements and a full width mahogany picnic table allows alfresco dining in style. The chassis, engine and running gear have all been restored to a similar high standard, and the culmination of all this expenditure is a car which exudes both style and class. There is a vast history file accompanying the car with copious handwritten notes detailing all aspects of the restoration, receipts, photographs of the restoration in progress and correspondence. Sunbeams are undervalued in the current classic car market and at present offer tremendous value compared to their contemporaries. 1101E now offers the next lucky owner vintage sporting motoring at its finest. A recent 120 mile round trip was a fantastic experience..long leg gearing gives this sunbeam a very good turn of speed..with a smooth and reliable ride . excellent brakes this is a very easy 1920s car to drive. Although the sturdily constructed chassis was based on that from earlier Sunbeams, the hitherto characteristic semi-elliptical leaf springs were, at the back, replaced by cantilever rear springs which during the second half of the decade became a Sunbeam hallmark.Bentley gained a reputation as the more robust of the two cars, although in standard form the Sunbeam was to be quicker. Two Sunbeams were entered in the 1925 Le Mans, one was forced to retire the other one achieved second place, beaten only by a Loraine-Dietrich. The following 5 years the race was dominated by Bentleys.
The car is registered in Belgium.       PRIVATE SALE!
