Seller's comments about 1947' Sunbeam Talbot 2 Litre Drophead Coupe

This is a unique opportunity to purchase a very rare and interesting vehicle. This Sunbeam Talbot 2 litre coupe was manufactured in 1946 and first registered in 1947.

This vehicle has a coach built body by E.D.Abbott Ltd of Farnham. There were only 67 of these cars produced and only a hand full of these vehicles are known to have survived.

This car has a very extensive history file which confirms the total low mileage of 34000, yes you are reading this correctly. The overall condition is quite superb and is well known with the club that caters for these vehicles the Sunbeam Talbot Alpine Register. It is a multiple club award winning vehicle both concours and Masterclass, all its awards will be kept with the car.

This car was first purchased by a well known individual John Runbaken who ran the Runbaken Magneto company of Manchester and was ordered for his wife from Tom Garner Ltd the Sunbeam Dealer at the time. The period extras added were a map light and a Jackall Hydraulic lifting system. This is in working order and very useful for winter storage.

The 2 litre range of vehicles were first introduced in September of 1939 around the outbreak of WW2, so there were very few early cars built. Production continued between 1946- 1948 in the form of saloons, tourers and drop head coupes. In total there were only 1308 cars manufactured across the range with the drop head coupes being the rarest. Rootes at the time used many parts from the range of vehicles that they had to offer. The engine used was the well proven 1991cc side-valve unit from Humber. These vehicles were also very similar to the Talbot 10 range but with a longer bonnet to include the larger engine they also had the benefit of Hydraulic brakes.

There have been many articles written about this car over the years with the most detailed being written in the September 1995 edition of The Automobile. Should you be interested you can find the full specification from a original brouchure on the excellent Sunbeam Talbot Alpine Register website. A one year club subscription will also be paid for the new owner.

Any inspection welcome, you will not be disappointed.
