1971' Triumph Herald

We acquired this car from the previous keeper, who had owned the car for 35 years! Having fully restored it from the ground up following his purchase, he has since spent a great deal of time and money keeping the car in a reliable roadworthy state. The car has been to Europe several times, and in earlier years even won awards at Triumph Club shows. It is an original convertible, so really is the one to have. They're a great investment, with prices rising all of the time.
The car is MOTd until December 15th 2018 (no advisories), and of course, the tax is free.

As mentioned, the previous owner gave the car a full structural restoration, which included full restoration of both the body tub and chassis, along with a full mechanical rebuild. Bodily, the car is nice and solid. The gaps are good (see pictures) and the doors shut with a nice ‘clunk’. It’s been painted in cellulose which polishes up really well, but don’t expect concourse-level show car finish. Don’t get me wrong, it’s just not a car that has been tarted up. It’s very presentable indeed and would most certainly not shame itself at car shows. All panels appear to be nice and solid (including bonnet). The chassis is still in good order, and there haven’t ever been any advisories on MOTs for anything related to that (or much else, actually!).


The interior is in good order – the wooden dash, door cards, carpets etc have all been restored. A new soft-top roof was fitted a couple of years ago, and has never been used! The hood cover is included. Electrics wise, everything works just as it should, including the radio, and the retro-fit electric windscreen washers.

The engine was rebored to +0.30, with an unleaded cylinder head, alternator conversion and other sensible modifications. It runs beautifully, ticks over quietly and smoothly, and does not overheat or use excessive amounts of oil or water. The gearbox is lovely and smooth, with a very positive action, and does not jump out of gear. It rides very nicely indeed (for a Herald!).

The V5 and MOT are present, along with quite a few bills – including one for the engine rebuild etc. The tyres all have plenty of tread remaining, and it’s just ready to use and enjoy! I think the pictures give a good representation of the car’s overall condition, and it is not hiding any horrors. So many of these cars get ‘tarted up’ to sell, but this simply isn’t one of them.
