Triumph TR5 2. 5 PI with Overdrive, finished in signal red with black vinyl interior. The TR5 was one of the first sports cars of this era to attract fuel injection and with it came a significant uplift to performance. Complimented by Michelotti’s distinct styling, the TR5 has fast become one of the most desirable classics to own. With a limited production, it is nowadays becoming increasingly difficult to find a good TR5, let alone one in anything like the condition of this one.
BACKGROUND
Produced in 1968 and with a genuine 86, 953 miles covered. This TR5 has been in the loving care of the current owner for 27 years. The bill of sale is included from when he acquired in 1996. In recent years the owner has invested over £45k in a bare shell restoration off the vehicle. A comprehensively documented lever arch file provides a full account of the restoration works completed, along with significant records of the vehicles past history.
MECHANICAL
In its production form the 2. 5 straight 6 delivered 150bhp and arrived at 60mph in just 8. 5secs. At the time of the recent restoration works the TR5 enjoyed a new injection system. The vehicle then had the engine inspected and setup by Robsport to ensure maximum performance. The vehicle now sounds and pulls exactly as it should. Independent rear suspension and servo assisted brakes ensured that the driving experience of the TR5 was at the pinnacle of its time. Benefiting from the factory option overdrive, allows for a much more useable vehicle on longer journeys.
EXTERIOR
Professionally restored in 2020 at a cost of over £45k, the TR5 presents today in an outstanding finish. Full details of the restoration and images are all included. The result is that the exterior paintwork is immaculate from top to bottom. Panel gaps, door shuts and the fine detail in the finish, are all of the highest standard we’ve seen. Brand new wire wheels and tyres have been fitted recently.
INTERIOR
The vinyl interior and carpets are very original and remain in excellent condition to this day. The period veneer dashboard is much the same, with no markings or wear. The hood and frame are available as part of the sale, although not currently fitted as the owner enjoyed the appearance of the incredibly rare Surrey hardtop, which really does set it aside from others.
