1971 Type 3 square back 1600 injection , Automatic Transmission This is a very solid example of the much loved type 3 , it’s spent most of its life in sunny California. It belonged to a US Airforce man who then died and it was left in his garden until it was sold off as part of his estate and even comes with a hefty booklet from the valuation appraisal carried out before it could be sold and recommissioned and then subsequently sold on to the person that imported it to the uk in 2014 . It’s 98% in original paint , the only new paint is the roof where it’s been repainted by its current owner ( a bodyshop professional who works within VW restoration) and at some point the tailgate has been replaced as its original colour is blue as you can see under the green paint and was replaced at some point when it was on the road in California but the green paint has aged well along with the original green paint giving it a very unique patina . Mechanically it runs and drives very well and the original fuel injection system works as should do along with the automatic transmission which makes it a very easy car to drive ! The interior is clean and tidy showing ware consummate to its age and it’s total unrestored nature , under the bonnet the paint is as it left the factory and all the usual problem areas are absolutely immaculate without any sign of corrosion, all the inner wings , floors sills and under seat areas again are in absolute rock solid condition. It’s clear this car has always been loved and cared for. It’s sitting on a set of genuine period cosmic alloy wheels with good tyres , it’s been mildly lowered but still retains a nice ride quality. A good solid square back is getting harder to find now days, this one is waring well . The owner Simon can be contacted on the details below , and would also consider a part exchange with any classic or interesting car.
