‘GVM 9E’ is a superb looking example of Volvo’s svelte coupe, made famous by Roger Moore’s “The Saint” television series. ‘GVM 9E’ has reportedly enjoyed a “no expense spared” restoration and light resto-modding in previous ownership. The previous keeper was thought to have spent over £40, 000, during an ownership that spanned 33 years! The current keeper acquired ‘GVM 9E’ in 2022 and it is offered here with NO RESERVE. One of the later, and more desirable Swedish built cars (the non-S models were built under license by Jensen in West Bromwich), ‘GVM 9E’ is offered with a literal box full of paperwork and invoices and numerous valuable spare parts.
The previous owner treated ‘GVM 9E’ to a tasteful level of popular resto-modding during the restoration. The curvaceous Pelle Petterson design has accepted these rather well and ‘GVM 9E’s’ dark metallic grey livery lends it an additional level of modernity and presence. A bumper delete and Petterson’s vestigial rear fins lends the car the look of something Batman might drive when he is off duty. The fitment of a set of 15-inch, Minilite style alloy wheels rounds of the look perfectly. ‘GVM 9E’ also benefits from a Webasto style folding fabric sunroof.
The crimson hue of the sporty cabin contrasts perfectly with the exterior treatment. The slimline, folding front seats have clearly benefitted from a professional retrim in supple looking, bright leather. The rear occasional seats are no less pristine and fresh looking. Complimentary red carpets are fitted. The dashboard fascia is finished in a machined alloy and the original gauge set and steering wheel are present and brimming with 1960’s character and charm.
For 1967 the P1800S B18 engine was uprated to a competitive 115 bhp and we presume that is what ‘GVM 9E’ is fitted with. This is mated to a four speed manual gearbox with an electrically actuated D-Type Laycock de Normanville overdrive. It is worth remembering that the world record for the highest mileage car is still held by Irv Gordon’s 1966 Volvo P1800S.
In summary:
· Stunning, lightly “restomod” look
· A reported £40, 000 spent in previous 33 year ownership
· Complete with huge paperwork archive and numerous spares
